My funny valentine

Since Valentine's Day 2008 is less than exciting for us as I'm spending it on the couch still trying to get over this bug, so I thought I would share a funny v-day story from a few years ago...

It was our first v-day as Mr. & Mrs. Smidt and our first v-day living in a new town so we thought we should go all out and have a nice candle-lit dinner at a beautiful restaurant....I present to you reason #3461 why it's not a good idea to go out for dinner on v-day!

Eric was in charge of finding the perfect restaurant. He scoured the internet and yellow pages for the perfect restaurant with just the perfect menu. He found it! But it was kept a secret from me, I couldn't know until we arrived. Exciting!

It was a 7:00 pm reservation, much passed our preferred supper time, but we sucked it up and let our stomachs get extra hungry in anticipation of the perfect v-day meal....and this is where is all went south very quickly.

This was before the time of the trusty GPS and we couldn't find the place! Mapquest wasn't doing its job and we drove forever before finding the tiny little restaurant. That should have been our first clue. Then...

Parking was sketchy too. I remember this vividly because our new car wasn't even a month old and I wasn't so excited about parking just a few inches from the next car. Yikes! But I sucked it up and made myself believe that a door ding would be worth it for a nice candle lit dinner with my husband. (gulp)

We made it inside and we were sat at our perfect little table for two. And then we got the MENU....or lack there of. It was a SET menu...that's right, the steaks Eric saw on their menu online were not available. The asparagus...nada. The mashed potatoes...no way! We were not going to get them!

The only thing I remember from the menu was the main course:

That's right...Hedgehog was the main course!! Can you really EAT these things?!?! Oh my goodness, panic set in! The only option? LEAVE and leave fast!!
Uh-huh, we hightailed it out of there so fast! The good thing was that we were able to leave before anyone else and avoided the dreaded door ding!
We drove and drove until we found 'ol faithful...Applebee's. It was definitely a v-day to remember...

I hope you're feeling better!! By the way, love your new pup. He's a cutie. We're really taking a liking to our little guy and he will most likely become a permanent part of our family. I can't imagine giving him back now. Thanks for the help with the names. We're leaning toward "Jack." We're trying it out for a couple days anyway. We'll see. Great to hear from you!
